AN outraged mum hit out yesterday after a child-sex monster who preyed on her little girl was jailed for just a year.
Evil Bernard Peake, 64, admitted five charges of unlawful sex with the 13-year-old. He used a phone chatline to lure her into his clutches.
Judge Gillian Ruaux branded the balding pervert a “predator”
But she jailed him for a paltry 12 months ? HALF the maximum sentence.
The girl’s mum, who cannot be named to protect her daughter’s identity, stormed: “What kind of a deterrent is this?
“In six months he will be out on the streets.”
The 33-year-old mother of five, from Wakefield, West Yorks, added: “Perverts like Peake will try anything to get to our kids. We are making it easier not harder.”
She called for a crackdown on chatlines like the one Peake used to target her daughter. The jobless greyhound racer invited the youngster to his home in Whitefield, Greater Manchester.
Prosecutor Alison Heyworth told Bolton Crown Court: “Peake told her he was called John and was only 49.
During a three-month period she spent nearly every weekend with him.”
Peake, who told cops he thought the youngster was over 16, even sent her a Valentine, which read: “I’ve been with a lot of girls but you’re the best.”
He was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for ten years. Judge Ruaux told him: “The law is designed to protect young girls from predators like you.”
An hour earlier she let ANOTHER paedophile who molested a 13-year-old walk free.
Norman Owen, 81, made the youngster watch sordid sex films, saying: “That’s what we’ll be doing ? you’ll get plenty of practice.”
Judge Ruaux gave the pervert, of Tydesley, Lancs, community service, saying he was “too old and feeble” for jail. Owen, who admitted six indecent assaults, replied: “Thank you very much.”
The girl’s mum sobbed: “You should be hanged for what you did.”
